Family Literacy Day was created by ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation in 1999 as a
national initiative to promote the importance of reading and learning together
as a family. Although Family Literacy is officially celebrated Monday, January 27th,
we at Ellison will celebrate this worthwhile event on Friday, January 30th by donning our pj’s and hosting our fourth annual Recycle-Reread event. Recycle-Reread is a program where gently used books are “recycled” for others to enjoy. In addition to the books
Ellison students will bring in, the Okanagan Regional Library has once again
donated a huge number of books towards this event. Many thanks to Jen Burtch, for
hooking us up with books from the ORL and to all the parent volunteers that help to sort and organize the books each year. Students who bring in books will get to peruse and
choose books first, then entire classes will be called down to the library. At this time, each student will get to choose a book to keep. What a wonderful way for students to add “new”
books to their person reading collections!
